Vascular Care Center of Salt Lake
Comprehensive care of varicose veins and vein problems

In this operating room Drs. Kenneth Seifert and Craig Wilkinson perform VNUS vein closing procedures, EVLT and laser vein closing procedures, and microphlebectomy to remove the painful and unsightly varicose veins.  We sometimes also perform ligation procedures for perforating veins.  These procedures are all done outside the hospital.  Our operating room is both functional and comfortable.  Most notably, our operating room has been approved by the Joint Commission (formally known as the Joint Commission for Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations and still often referred to by its former acronym:  JCAHO).  Approval by this organization requires meeting very stringent requirements designed to promote patient safety and well-being.  Most top-notch hospitals work hard to maintain JCAHO accreditation, but some office operating rooms do not meet these high standards.  There is no law that says that an independent operating room must be JCAHO approved.  Doctors Wilkinson and Seifert believe that their patients deserve this added safety assurance.

We can offer our patents the option of having their procedure done under a light anesthetic, a technique known as “conscious sedation.”  This is administered by a board certified anesthesiologist with a full range of state of the art anesthesia equipment and supplies for all possible contingencies.  It is as safe as any hospital.  Conscious sedation significantly improves the experience of vein surgery.

In addition to this, the operating room is pleasant and comfortable.  You will be assured of privacy, comfort and excellent care.

Before you begin to have your painful and unsightly varicose veins treated by VNUS, EVLT or microphlebectomy, you will change into an operating room gown and Dr. Wilkinson or Dr. Seifert will see you in this room and will mark the location of the visible varicose veins.  Here the anesthesiologist will see you before you begin the vein closure and microphlebectomy.

Immediately following the VNUS or laser closure procedure or your microphlebectomy to remove your varicose veins you will transfer to a stretcher and we will move you to the recovery room.  There a certified recovery room nurse will help you with any pain that you might have, with getting dressed and walking again, and you will move to the room pictured below to wait for your ride home.

When you feel ready, and your ride is waiting outside, the recovery room nurse will help you to your car.

We will call you the day after your VNUS or laser procedure for your varicose veins to be sure you are doing well and following the simple instructions we have given you.  We will see you back in the office 2 days later for another ultrasound examination and then again in 10 days to be sure your leg is healing appropriately.

That's all there is to it!
